Seeing how the traditions are passed down through this youth group of Hawaiian locals through replanting, clearing overgrowth, and ritual you can’t help but feel the movement that’s come before you in such a sacred space as the heiau. Wildlife always has a sacred place in the locals hearts here. I stood photographing the class as I overheard stories of their ancestors and how they stood in this very temple looking to the stars to aid navigation through standing stones. Each aligned with the stars above for celestial navigation.
These stories along with the sound of E Ala E chanted from the students looking out over the horizon grabbed my entire attention. A beautiful thing to be apart of.
